Our homestead is filled with heritage breeds that provide us with companionship as well as nutrition for our family. We believe that homesteading is a lost art. Our goal is to be able to provide for our family without having to worry about what’s in our food, how animals have been treated, or supply chain problems. For this reason we have chosen to raise livestock that is suitable for small homesteads. We have chosen our foundation stock with care and hope to share their offspring with other small homesteads.
When you visit our farm it is not uncommon to see our Kune Kune pigs, Babydoll sheep, and goats out in the pastures grazing away. It won’t take long before you hear the Guinea fowl alerting each other to your arrival. You’ll probably find our two Great Pyrenees catching a nap under a tree after working diligently all night long. Our barn cats are sure to seek you out for some belly rubs, and if you listen closely you will hear one of our hens singing her egg song just for you.
Kune Kune Pigs
We have chosen Kunekune pigs native to New Zealand as our homestead pig. In Maori, Kunekune means “fat and round.” These wonderful pigs are small, relatively speaking, weighing around 150-300 lbs when full grown. Kunekune are known for their super friendly dispositions, often flopping right over in front of you for some belly rubs. They are built for grazing and foraging on pasture making them perfect for homesteads in lush Tennessee.
Our registered Kunekune piglets will be available in summer 2023!
Babydoll Sheep
Our flock of Babydoll sheep is a mixed flock of registered and unregistered sheep. We have fallen in love with these docile, friendly, lamb mowers!
Once again size and disposition were the main factors in adding this breed to our homestead. They are known for their temperament, hardiness, and wool. Our Babydolls are used to maintain our fruit orchard. They do a great job at clearing weeds around our trees, their small stature means that our fruit is safe from taste testers.
Mini Nubian & Kinder goats
Yet again size was a main factor in adding these breeds to our homestead. They are known for their milk production and friendly demeanors. Our goats are used to maintain the ever growing shrubs & weeds on our farm. They do a great job at clearing poison ivy and other noxious weeds while fertilizing our soil.
Our commitment to our animals:
We give our animals the best life possible. The receive daily interaction from us, lots of time out in our pastures, they receive feed formulated for their optimum health and growth, and routine vet care. We treat them with love and respect throughout their time with us.
We each have our favorites and it’s not uncommon to find us taking a break by spending time with our animals.
